Note: We have completed the hiring process for our lifeguards for the 2026 season.
We typically have a team of between 15 and 20 lifeguards in a season who are the pool’s only paid employees. Without lifeguards we wouldn’t be able to open.
We recruit lifeguards every year before the start of our season in around January/February time. An example of the job responsibilities, requirements, and benefits is included below for reference. Job Information
You will meet great people, learn new things and be part of a friendly team making sure our customers return time and time again, recommending us as the Home of Swimming in Bovey Tracey.
You will be responsible for:
- working with a team of committed lifeguards and reporting to the Pool Committee
- ensuring people swim in a safe, friendly and fun environment and supervising pool users
- delivering excellent customer service skills, handling payments, managing our online booking system and dealing with customer queries on a day-to-day basis
- ensuring the pool is maintained to excellent standards following robust cleaning procedures
- following safeguarding polices
- supervising additional lifeguards whilst on duty.
You will need:
- to be over 18
- to hold a relevant in date lifeguarding qualification
- to have a flexible approach to hours, including early morning, evening, and weekend shifts
- to take the initiative and make decisions that are right for the safety of all pool users
- to have a passion for swimming, delivering great customer service with pride and a smile
- to work well within a team and communicate effectively and openly with others
- to be at work on time and ready to be an ambassador for Bovey Pool
- to be prepared to complete an enhanced DBS check before staring employment with us
- to successfully complete a RLSS UK competency assessment in April
